Cumberland Gap is one of the most hallowed historic locations on the North American Continent. Lewis arrived at Cumberland Gap on or before 20 November 1806. While there, he made a celestial observation at the request of Col. Arthur Campbell to help settle a dispute concerning the location of the Walker Line. William Clark and York also crossed through Cumberland Gap on their way east.
