Monticello, the iconic home of President Thomas Jefferson in Charlottesville, Virginia, played a central role in the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Jefferson personally trained Meriwether Lewis in the sciences and natural philosophy at Monticello, preparing him for the exploration. The Lewis and Clark Trust was founded at the Thomas Jefferson Monticello International Center Library in December 2011.
