Santillane was the home of George Hancock in Fincastle, Virginia. William Clark visited here in December 1806 to court Julia Hancock, George’s daughter. Clark stayed with his Army friend Major William Preston and his wife Caroline, Julia’s older sister, during the courtship. William and Julia were married on 5 January 1808.
