Meriwether Lewis came down the Ohio from Pittsburgh in the fall of 1803, and he and William Clark descended its lower reaches together that November. Between 2022 and 2026 Terrain360 recorded the river in 360° from the water, from Pittsburgh down. With the last gap filled on September 7, 2026, the Ohio is on the record to its confluence with the Mississippi at Cairo, apart from short breaks at locks and dams.
Year by year
- 2022: the Ohio from Ashland, Kentucky, to the Wabash.
- 2023: Olmsted Locks and Dam down to Cairo.
- 2024: the upper Ohio from Pittsburgh.
- 2025: Wheeling to Moundsville, Racine to Gallipolis, and Apple Grove to Ashland.
- 2026: on September 7, the last gap on the lower Ohio: 140 miles from Blackburn past the Wabash to Birdsville, and from Smithland past Paducah to Olmsted Locks and Dam, with the Paducah riverfront, the floodwall murals and the Irvin S. Cobb Bridge.
